Holi : Festival of Colours

India is the country of festivals. From all these festivals, some are related with seasons and some are related with happenings. Holi is the combination of all of these. For this reason its importance increases even more. On this day, forgetting mutual quarrels, people hug each other and apply Gulal. The festival of colors Holi is a unique festival in itself. It is celebrated on the full moon of Falgun month. There is a folk tale about its celebration that Hiranyakashyap, the king of demons, was an opponent of God, While his son Prahlad was a great devotee of God. For this reason Hiranyakashyap did not like the actions of his son Prahlad. Prahlad had to suffer various kinds of sufferings because of worshipping God. His father tried to kill him several times but he failed every time. Hiranyakashyap's sister was Holika, who had a boon from God that fire could not burn him. So, Hiranyakashyap ordered his sister to sit in fire with Prahlad, so that Prahlad would die. She took Prahlad in her lap and sat on the burning pyre. Holika was burnt by the grace of God, but Prahlad survived. Remembering the same incident, people still do Holika Dahan. The festival of Holi brings happiness to all, young, old, children, male - female, rich - poor. Everyone celebrates this festival with joy and gaiety. On the day of Holi i.e. on the evening of Falgun Purnima, when the moon is at its youth, then after worshiping a pile of wood is set on fire. People revolve around the fire and celebrate happiness.
