Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of free India. He was born at Allahabad in 1889. His father Moti Lal Nehru was a famous lawyer. Earlier he was educated in the hands of the English. He was sent to England for higher education. In 1912 he returned to India.
He met Mahatma Gandhi and joined Indian National Congress. He started talking part in politics. He was married to Shrimati Kamla Devi. He was arrested several times during the rule of the English. He took part in the Quit India Movement and got India free on August 15, 1947.
He was a great leader, teacher and writer. He worked for his country. He wanted world peace. The children called him Chacha Nehru. He died of heart - attack on May 27, 1964. He wrote two famous books namely Discovery of India and Glimpses of World I, History.
