Delhi is one of the most populated metropolitian cities of the world. Over the years, governments have tried to provide a safe, efficient and dependable means of mass transportation. The Delhi Metro has served the cause in a wonderful way.
The metro system provides connectivity in Delhi and the satellite cities of Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurgaon. The network consists of six colour coded lines and the Airport Express Line that criss crossed the cities along underground, on surface or elevated corridors. Under the able leadership of the chief executive Mr. Mangu Singh the metro services have expanded to a total length of 213 kilometers and 160 stations. The DMRC operates around 2000 trips daily. Inspite of such a huge network the DMRC is able to handle the crowds efficiently. The metro card allows a ten percent discount on the fare and helps to avoid long queues. The metro has a daily readership of over 2.5 million passengers. The metro is the favoured mode of transport of lakhs of people as the coaches are air-conditioned, the stations are world - class and the frequency of the trains is high. So the metro provides a fuss-free comfortable and affordable ride. Moreover, the metro has taken the burden of vehicular traffic off the roads. It also helps to keep the pollution levels stable. We can only imagine the worst on the roads had the metro not been there. Several nodal metro stations have ample parking space thus enabling people who not live in the vicinity of the metro station to comfortably use it. The DMRC has already begun testing of driverless metro train. The train would initially be run by train operators for a year followed by complete switching to unmanned train operations. The DMRC has constantly been trying to upgrade its services and facilities. The train are sparkling clean and the stations too abound with hardworking staff busy in cleaning the station. The metro has become a symbol of pride for the Delhi. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has left no stone unturned to provide the best service to its commuters.
