Introduction To The Poem

Do you think home and house are synonyms ? Do they mean the same ? This is a mistaken view. Bricks and cement and plaster and doors - all these make a house. It is fixed, lifeless thing. But home can be shifted from one house to another. A family of loving parents and chidren make a home. They are deeply attached to one another. They are caring and sharing selflessly.
The beautiful short poem makes a fine distinction between a home and a house. A mad house can't be called a mad home. 

Summary In English

What is a house ? It is all bricks and stone and hardwood. The walls are made of bricks and stone. The door frames and pannels are made of hard wood. A house has windows with glass panes. It has a piece of enclosed ground or courtyard. It has sloping roofs that overhang the walls. It has a chimney for the blowing out of smoke. The floors are paved with slabs of baked clay. The walls have plaster of coating. There is a roof for shade as well as protection. And every house has a number of doors.
A home is not the same thing as a house. Bricks and stone, glass and wood make a house, not a home. Home is a place where one lives especially with one's family. It is the people, loving and kind and helpful, who make a happy home. A home has brothers and sisters, father and mother. Their spirit of selfless service, their concern for one another, their willingness to share joys and sorrows - all these are necessary parts of a real home.

Summary In Hindi

मकान की परिभाषा क्या है ? यह ईंट, पत्थरों तथा कठोर लकड़ी से बना होता है। दीवारें तो ईंट, पत्थरों की होती है। दरवाजों की चौखट तथा पल्ले लकड़ी के होते है। मकान की खिड़कियों पर शीशे लगे रहते है। इसके पास एक आँगन या चारदीवारी से घिरा मैदान होता है। ढलान वाली छत दीवारों के ऊपर बनी होती है। रसोई के ऊपर एक चिमनी होती है ताकि धुआँ बाहर निकल जाए। फर्श पर पक्की मिट्टी की चौकोर पट्टियाँ लगी होती है। दीवारों पर पलस्तर होता है। मकान के ऊपर एक छत होती है जो छाया देती है और सुरक्षा भी। घर और मकान में अंतर होता है। ईंट, पत्थर, शीशे और लकड़ी मकान तो बना देते है , घर नहीं बनाते। घर तब बनता है जब मकान में कोई व्यक्ति परिवार के साथ रहता है। लोग जो परस्पर स्नेह करते है, सहृदय होते है तथा मदद को तैयार रहते है, ऐसे लोगो से एक सुखी घर बनता है। घर के अंदर भाई - बहन , माता - पिता भी रहते है। उनकी निस्वार्थ सेवा भावना , एक दुसरे की चिंता - परवाह , सुख - दुखः को बांटने की इच्छा , ये सब वास्तविक घर  के लिए आवश्यक चीजें होती हैं।
