Introduction To The Story

Dog is a man's most loyal and dependable servant. He joined man and accepted him as his master a long time ago. He felt lonely and unsafe in the world. So once he set out to find a powerful master, stronger than any other animal. He first accepted the wolf as his master. But seeing the wolf afraid of the bear, the dog joined the bear. Then he discovered that bear accepted the lion as the strongest beast. So the dog changed his master again. But finding the lion also afraid of man, the dog finally took up service with man.
This is interesting imaginary story gives us a list of powerful animals - the wolf, the bear and the lion. But man has proved himself the strongest creature. He is the ruler of the earth.

Summary In English

A long time ago, dogs were wild and free as other animals. They were their own masters, not servants or pets. Once a dog felt sick and tired of that freedom. He had to go about alone in search of food. He also lived in constant fear of other animals stronger than he. So he decided to find a strong master for himself, stronger than anyone on earth.
He began his search. He met a big wolf who was not only his relative but also very strong and terrible. He took up service with the wolf. But this relationship did not last long. Once the wolf got scent of a bear and ran into the forest. His fear was that the bear might eat up both of them.
The dog left the wolf to join bear. Together they set out to find a cow for their food. They heard the loud mooing of cows, running about in fear of lion. The frightened bear ran off into the forest. The dog then went up to the lion for his protection. The two stayed together for a long, long time. It was a good and secure life for the dog. But one day the lion also showed signs of fear on seeing man. He backed away quietly. "We had better run or we'll be in trouble," he told the dog.
The dog then said goodbye to the lion and joined the man, the strongest being on the earth. He served his master - man most faithfully. They have since then stayed together as master and servant.

Summary In Hindi

बहुत समय पूर्व कुत्ते भी अन्य वन्य जीवों की भाँति जंगली एवं स्वतंत्र विचरण करने वाले थे। वे किसी के दास या पालतू नहीं थे , अपने स्वामी स्वयं थे। एक बार एक कुत्ता अपनी आज़ादी से तंग और दुखी हो गया। उसे भोजन की खोज अकेले ही करनी होती थी। उसे सदा ही अपने से अधिक बलशाली जानवरों का खतरा बना रहता था। इसलिए उसने अपने लिए एक शक्तिशाली स्वामी खोजने की ठान ली, जो धरती पर सबसे अधिक बलवान हो। 
उसने अपनी खोज शुरू की। उसकी भेट एक विशालकाय भेड़िये से हो गयी जो न केवल उसका सम्बन्धी वरन बलवान और भयंकर भी था। कुत्ता उसका सेवक बन गया। पर यह सम्बन्ध अधिक दिनों तक नहीं चल पाया। एक बार भेड़िये को किसी रीछ की गंध मिल गयी और वह भागकर जंगल में छिप गया। उसे भय था कि रीछ दोनों को ही खा जाएगा। 
कुत्ते ने भेड़िये का साथ छोड़कर रीछ को अपना स्वामी बना लिया। दोनों साथ - साथ भोजन के लिए किसी गाय की खोज में चल दिए। उन्हें गायों का शोर सुनाई दिया। वे गायें किसी शेर के डर से भाग रही थी। भयभीत रीछ भी जंगल में भाग गया। कुत्ता फिर शेर के पास सुरक्षा के लिए गया। दोनों दीर्घकाल तक साथ - साथ रहे। कुत्ते को यह जीवन सुखद तथा सुरक्षित लगा। पर एक दिन शेर ने भी भय के लक्षण दिखा दिये, जब उसने किसी मनुष्य को देख लिया। वह चुपके से पीछे खिसक चला। "हमारी भलाई इसी में है कि हम यहाँ से भाग चलें अन्यथा संकट में फंस जायेँगे," उसने कुत्ते को बोला। 
इसके पश्चात कुत्ते ने शेर को भी अलविदा कह दिया और मनुष्य की अधीनता स्वीकार कर ली , क्योंकि मानव ही पृथ्वी पर सर्वाधिक शक्तिशाली है। उसने मनुष्य की सेवा पूरी निष्ठापूर्वक की। तभी से दोनों साथ साथ स्वामी तथा सेवक की भाँति रह रहे है।
