Terrorism In India
Terrorism is observed as a world-wide phenomenon. In India, it first started as Naxalbari movement. That movement was first begun in Assam. Subsequently it was spread to other parts of the country. However, it was crushed in Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.
Terrorism has its roots in discontent. India is a very big country of so many faiths, castes and tribes. When the people of a region think that their identity is in danger, they resort to violence. The state tries to curb this violence. A chain starts and sometimes ; the terrorist activities continued for several years.
The terrorist movements have been so far witnessed in Nagaland, Mizoram, Assam, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. It spread in Punjab on a large scale during the regime of Smt. Indira Gandhi as the then Prime Minsiter of India. Peace could be restored there when operation Blue Star was conducted. However, so far as terrorism in Kashmir is concerned. It appears almost impossible to restore peace there.
