India gained freedom sixty eight years ago as a result of the blood, sweat and toil of number of heroes. They gave up their lives so we may live in free country. The next step was building a nation that began in right earnest. Leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru strived to bring the country on the world map. They had a vision for the country, believed in having a scientific temper and made highly appreciable efforts in setting up the infrastrucuture for a country on the path of progress. Several dams, industries, educational institutions, healthcare providers were setup. Our country moved tiny steps at a time and over the years has become a force to reckon. Its population is its power. Hardworking people who can give a boost to the economy have strived to turn the lives of farmers, labourers and skilled workers around. The people have been exposed to new techniques that make the work easy to do and in a shorter duration of time, thereby saving labour, time and money. More and more people are turning to acuiring skills that help to generate income and employment. Women empowerment has been a priority will all the governments. As a result women have proved their worth time and again in all the fields.
India is just short of becoming a supper power but we have many hurdles to cross. Terrorism, poverty, drugs, population explosion, gender inequality, illiteracy are hampering development. It is now in the hands of the gen-next to carry the legacy of our forefathers forward. They have to do this without forgetting that freedom does not come easily to those who are lazy and laid back. The character of the young people plays a major role in the process of national development. Students need to be focused so that India can be proud of lakhs of engineers, doctors, soldiers, teachers, scientists and technocrats whose talent will be among the best in the world. The past years have not been smooth sailing. There have been terrorist attacks, wars, communal riots and other obstacles. Inspite of these there are so many wonderful achievements to our credit - the Chandrayaan Mission, industrial growth, numerous achievements in the field of sports, a strong defence, cultural advancement, bank geared agriculture and so on.
