Summary - I

Once there was wrestler. His name was Vijay Singh. He was tall and strong. Everybody believed that no other wrestler could beat him.
Vijay Singh was fond of boasting. One day he said that people were afraid of ghosts. But if he ever came across a ghost he would teach him a lesson.
A young man suggested that he should go to the Haunted Desert. There the ghosts were in plenty.
The Haunted Desert was a few miles from his village. Vijay singh decided to go there to fight a ghost.
The whole village came to see him off. An old woman gave him a little packet. Vijay SIngh set out towards the Haunted Desert. On his way he opened the packet, the old woman had given him. It contained a lump of salt and an egg.
When Vijay Singh reached the Haunted Desert it was late at night. The moon and stars were shining in the clear sky. Someone called to Vijay Singh, "Vijay, I am your friend, Natwar. Come here. I'll show you the way."
Vijay Singh realized that it was a ghost. So he replied, "Dear Natwar, it is dark. I cannot see where you are. Please come to me and show me the way."
Immediately the ghost came to him. He looked at the ghost and said, "You are a worthless, lying ghost. Now I will walk no farther. I was just looking for you." 
The ghost was surprised. People were frightened to see him. But Vijay Singh was taunting him.
The ghost asked, "Why were you looking for me?" Vijay Singh replied, "I am tired of wrestling with men. Now I want to fight a ghost."
The ghost was speechless. He looked at Vijay Singh and said, "You do not look very strong." Vijay Singh said, "You are mistaken. Let me show you how strong I am."

Summary - II

Vijay Singh wanted to show his power to the ghost. He picked up a piece of stone and gave it to the ghost. He told the ghost, "There is liquid substance inside it. Squeeze it out." The ghost pressed the stone between the hands. But it was too hard. In the meantime Vijay Singh put his hand in his pocket. He took out the egg. Then he snatched the stone from the ghost. He pressed the egg. The egg cracked and the yolk dripped from Vijay's fingers. The ghost was amazed. He believed that Vijay Singh had pressed the piece of stone.
Then Vijay Singh picked another piece of stone. He said to the ghost, "There is a salt inside it. Just try to break it." The ghost tried to break the stone. But he could not crush it. Then Vijay Singh quietly took out the lump of salt from his pocket. He crushed it. He offered the powdered salt to the ghost to taste. 
Now the ghost was convinced that Vijay Singh was very strong. He could not beat him. He decided to kill Vijay Singh in the night. The ghost invited Vijay Singh to stay for the night with him. Vijay Singh agreed. The ghost led him to his cave. He fed Vijay Singh dry fruit and milk. Then he led him to a luxurious bed to sleep.
Vijay Singh kept awake. In the middle of the night he left his bed. He put a big pillow in the centre of the bed and covered it with a blanket. Then he sat in a dark corner.
The ghost came with a big club. He believed that Vijay Singh was sleep. He brought down his club seven times on the pillow. He thought that he had killed Vijay Singh. Then he went back to his own bed to sleep.
Vijay Singh once again lay in his bed. Early in the morning he woke up and said, "Dear ghost, an insect troubled me. 'It flapped its wings seven times."
The ghost was astonished. He believed that it was unsafe to stay with Vijay Singh any longer. He ran away leaving all his ill - got wealth in the cave.
Vijay Singh became wealthy. He came back to his village. He thanked the old woman who had given him an egg and a lump of salt. He married her grand daughter.
Vijay Singh never boasted again. But the Haunted Desert was safe for travellers.
