Answer:
Sangha :
  1. In the sangha, all people were allowed to join, whether women or slaves. They had to take permission from their parents, husbands or masters respectively.
  2. The members were expected to lead a life of celibacy once they join the sangha.
  3. The members had to be on the move, preaching and teaching the people, except during the rainy season.
  4. The members had to go out and beg for food.
Ashram :
  1. Only brahmins, Kshatriyas and vaishyas were expected to follow the ashrams. Shudras were not allowed. Women had to follow the ashram of their husbands.
  2. One of the ashramas was the grihastha ashrama, when they had to marry and live as a householder.
  3. The first two ashramas, the brahamcharya and grihastha, were spent at home.
  4. They lived in the family for the first two sages and there was no need to beg.
The four varnas are the Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas. The fourth were the Shudras. Only Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaishya men were expected to follow the ashramas.

I : He tells about ahimsa or non-injury. We should kill any animal for food. I want to know more about him. Father, you have not heard the pitful cries of the animals, when they are killed.
Father : If, my child you are so keen to go then we will go with you.

Angha's mother wanted her to know about the story of Buddha because she was going on a school trip to Varanasi. Varanasi has many places like Sarnath, which are closely related to the life of Buddha. It would have enriched her knowledge about one of the greatest teacher and preacher of ancient times.

6. Do you think it would have been easy for slaves to join the sangha ? Give reasons for your answer.
Answer:
Those who wanted to join the sangha had to take permission of their parents or their masters. If the slave wanted to joinsangha, they had to take the permission of their masters. The masters would not give permission easily, because the slaves worked very hard and did not get any wages. So, it was difficult for the slaves to join the sangha.

Mother Teresa was one such lady who gave up worldly pleasure and decided to serve humanity. She had become a nun at very early age. The sufferings of the people, especially the people affected by leprosy, made her serve humanity. She started many homes, where the sick, old and infants were looked after. She wore simple clothes, a white cotton saree with a blue border and ate the same food as others.
