The Old Clock Shop Summary Chapter 4 Class 6

Summary | The Old Clock Shop | Chapter 4 | English | A Pact With The Sun

Summary

It was Christmas eve. Salt Lake City in U.S.A. was covered with snow. The last minute shoppers were going home. The old clock shop was still open. Its owner Ray was working on a clock that he had sold on that day.
Two men came to his shop. One of them was young. The other was middle aged. The young man stood at the door. The middle aged man came towards the counter. He did not have a friendly look. His right hand was in his coat - pocket. It appeared that he had a gun in his hand.
Ray was afraid and angry. But he kept his cool. He wrote on a notepad, "May I help you?" Then he pointed to his ears to indicate that he was deaf.
The two men looked to be utterly poor. They needed money. They could do anything to get money.
Then Ray wrote another message, "Have you come to pick up a clock or watch?" He pointed to the loan - board that was full of clocks and watches. Ray had lent money to their owners. They could get them back whenever they liked. He charged no interest.
The man felt easy. He took out his hand from his pocket. There was a watch on his wrist. He offered the watch as a security for a loan. Ray asked, "How much do you need for it ?" The man wrote on the pad, "whatever it is worth." Ray pulled out a fifty dollar note from his cash box and handed it to the man. Indeed both Ray and the man knew that the watch was not worth fifty dollars. The man felt very grateful to Mr. Ray. They shook hands. Then the man wrote on the note - pad, I'll come to get my watch back as soon as I can."
Just then all the watches in the old clock shop chimed together. It appeared they spread the eternal message of peace and good will to all. The three men felt the message in their hearts.
