Kargil is situated 204 kilometers eastwards from Sri Nagar. Total population of this area is 81000. It is spread over an area of 14036 square kilometers and is 11000 feet above sea the sea level. Therefore, it is covered with ice for 8-9 months of the year. In Dras, the temperature goes down to -50℃ to -55℃.
In Indian history Kargil will be remembered for 1999 tragedy. Actually 2000 terrorists illegally occupied the Kargil and developed the temporary forts at important areas. Indian army came to know all this in may 1999. To remove these terrorists, Indian army started 'Operation Flush Out' after which Airforce followed with 'Operation Vijay'. Airforce destroyed the important coverings of terrorists with bombarding. They took three months to finish the operation. In this 500 soldiers died and government spent much more than the previous wars with Pakistan.
India always sopport peace and harmony in the world. This should not be considered our weakness.
